Tourism Wells Gray is expecting to see another influx of tourists to the Clearwater area this summer.
Executive Director Claire Hanna says visitor numbers in the Wells Gray area are slowly improving after a drop due to pandemic restrictions.
“Last year, there was about a 30 per cent increase in travellers to the area and we are looking to see that or more again this year,” Hanna said. “We’re still looking at really strong visitor numbers coming in to explore our beautiful backyard in Clearwater and Wells Gray Park.”
“We’re seeing a really big increase in European travellers which has been really interesting. Even the Aussies are coming over again, so its been really nice to see more than just our domestic market wanting to come and explore B.C..”
Early-season tourists in May and June won’t be able to catch a glimpse of Helmcken Falls as the viewing platform will be closed so BC Parks can build a new accessible platform at the popular tourist attraction.
“Typically our peak traffic to Wells Gray occurs from July, August, and September,” Hanna said.
“May and June are a little quieter months, so we don’t anticipate that there will be too many upsets to people’s travel plans, but there is lots to see in that main park corridor.”
