Former Merritt councillor Tony Luck is eyeing higher office as the BC Conservatives candidate in Fraser-Nicola in the upcoming provincial election.
According to a party biography, Luck’s extensive career includes a decade as a financial planner, 26 years with BC Hydro, and his current role as a realtor.
Luck, who was elected to Merritt City Council in 2018, unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2022. He also served as a City Councillor in Mission between 2012 and 2016, and was unsuccessful in his bid to serve as mayor in 2014.
He also held leadership positions within the Fraser Valley Regional District and the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA).
“Tony’s wealth of experience demonstrates his commitment to effective governance and community service,” a statement from the BC Conservative Party said.
“He believes in the power of grassroots initiatives to drive positive change and has dedicated his time to volunteering and supporting local causes. Tony’s community involvement reflects his deep-rooted commitment to the well-being of Fraser-Nicola residents.”
Luck will be running against incumbent BC United MLA Jackie Tegart, and the Green Party’s Jonah Timms.
The BC NDP hasn’t picked its candidate yet, with the next provincial election scheduled for Oct. 19, 2024.
