The Kamloops Sports Council honored the best in sports for the calendar year of 2023 at the Colombo Lodge Saturday night.
The South Kam Boys Volleyball team claimed the Team of the Year award for their Provincial AA title and several tournament wins.
Coach Graham Macgregor also won the Coach of the Year for guiding the team to their championship season – a group he’s had together now for eight years.
Pan Am Gold Medalist and Kamloops Throws Centre Hammer Throw athlete Ethan Katzberg won Male Athlete of the Year while goaltender Kendra Woodland claimed female honors.
Former Blazer Logan Stankoven won the International Excellence award for his work helping Canada to a World Junior Championship.
Canada West Soccer player Raiya Rumo won the University Award as one of the top defenders in Canada. She was named a Canada West All-Star.
The Sports Person of the Year was shared by Kamloops Memorial Cup Host Committee Co-Chairs Yves Lacasse & Norm Daley.
Scotties Tournament of Hearts co-chairs Linda Bolton & Brenda Nordin were presented with the President’s Award for the work in organizing major curling events in Kamloops.
The Kamloops Canoe & Kayak Club were also recognized for their outstanding achievements.
The Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024 was also inducted.
The list included sports athlete and advocate KJ Klontz, distance runner and curler Randy Nelson, the late Jim Roode for his work volunteering and as former KMHA President.
The 1972-73 North Kamloops Kinsmen Bantam Hockey Team were also honored as the first Kamloops team to medal at the event.
