Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Hope to Merritt section of the Coquihalla.
It says that stretch of highway could see as much as 15 centimetres of snow because of a frontal system that is bringing rain to parts of southern British Columbia.
“Precipitation will initially start as rain this afternoon as the snow level rises above the Coquihalla Summit,” Environment Canada said. “Rain will change to snow near the summit this evening as the snow level falls to near the summit.”
The weather agency says the snow expected to ease up by around noon tomorrow, April 9.
A similar warning is also in place on the Trans Canada Highway near Rogers Pass, where as much as 20 cm of snow could fall by Tuesday evening.
Drivers are being told to watch for slippery roads and challenging driving conditions.
They’re also being reminded to ensure they have the proper tires as winter tires are required on both those highways until the end of this month.
