Kamloops RCMP say a man is under medical care, after being taken down with a taser late Monday morning downtown.
“On Tuesday April 8, 2024, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Integrated Crisis Response Team received a request to check the wellbeing of a man who appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis,” said the RCMP in a release. “In consideration of the information received and the high-risk presented, a number of officers attended the area of St. Paul Street West around 11 a.m., and attempted to converse with the person.”
While details of what transpired from that point, the Mounties have confirmed they did hit the man with a shot from a taser.
“Based the situation and risk-assessment, a conductive-energy device was effectively deployed and officers were able to safely apprehend the man under the Mental Health Act,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.
RCMP say the man was immediately taken to the hospital for medical assessment and care.
No charges are being recommended.
