A new, high-end hotel in Aberdeen is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Plans for a new, 157 room hotel next to the existing Coast Hotel and Convention Center, has cruised through its public hearing process, and now awaits final rezoning approvals from Kamloops city council.
Ron Mundi, President of Mundi Hotels — the group behind the new project — says once they get their building permits, they expect construction to begin immediately.
He says the new hotel will be more high-end than the existing Coast Hotel and Convention Center next door, which Mundi also owns.
“It’s kind of almost 2 steps above the Coast Hotel. The new hotel is 6 story, with full restaurant and the bar,” noted Mundi in an interview with Radio NL after the rezoning hearing. “I’m in the community for more than 28 years. Rocky Mountain Rail Tours brings a lot of business. They’re always asking for more high-quality hotels.”
Mundi says they expect the new hotel to be open by next summer.
“We are fully ready to start at full speed after we get the building permit,” said Mundi. “Like I mentioned before, our opening date [will be] on August 1st, in 2025.”
This is the 2nd pass at a hotel at that location, with Mundi — at the onset of COVID — deciding to switch the design to a residential building.
However, he’s now switched back to the original hotel concept, saying he feels the hotel market here in Kamloops is still under served.
