It’s an ambitious plan to grow the sport of mountain biking in Kamloops.
The Kamloops Bike Riding Association has released a three to five year Strategic Plan that includes trying to build their membership, create partnerships and a steady flow of funding in order to hire two full-time staff members.
“We are sitting at around 450 members, and with a City of this size, we should easily be over 1000,” KBRA President Devyn Pelly told NL Sports.
The new plan focuses on three main components – grow the membership, support trail maintenance and collaborate with key stakeholders like the City of Kamloops and Tk’emlúps.
“We would eventually like to have one paid trail person. We want to be able to work with all the interest groups to have sustainable funding. We also would like one paid Executive Director because they will steer all the volunteers,” Pelly added.
Pelly thinks Kamloops is one-of-a-kind in the world when it comes to mountain biking.
“Easily it is, in my opinion, it is the most renowned spot in the world,” he said. “The caliber of trails is really high, but have so many diverse trails for all skill levels.”
