Hundreds of people are expected roll through McArthur Island this weekend for the annual Gun and Antique Show & Sale being put on by the Kamloops Target Sports Association.
The annual event includes displays, knife and gun sales, as well as information from outdoor groups.
KTSA President Geoff House says one of the more popular draws is are the hand-crafted knives.
“Beautiful pieces of art, really,” said House. “The knives have all different uses and purposes for what they’re designing and putting together. We’ve got quite a few [exhibitors]. That part has grown a little bit over the past few years. It’s quite amazing.”
House says while normal guns and knives will be up for sale, he says there’s also the possibility of finding some more historic weaponry.
“There’s not a lot of it. But there are little hidden treasures there to be found,” noted House. “People are often, as they get older, they’re getting rid of their collections, and you’ll find some really unique pieces. Certainly World War I, the old Lee-Enfield rifles. You can usually find a good selection of those.”
House says he’s not sure what this year’s turnout will be, but anticipates it will be busy.
“On low years, we’re about 2,500,” said House. “On peak years, we’re around 4,000.”
This year’s gun and knife show — the 39th edition of the event — runs Saturday and Sunday.
