Those looking to inter their loved ones in a mausoleum in Kamloops are going to get another opportunity to do so starting next month.
Parks Manager Jeff Putnam has confirmed space at the now-named Mountain Vista Mausoleum at Hillside Cemetery will be available for purchase on May 15th.
Pricing for crypts — 360 in total — will range from $18,000 to $28,000.
Over 2,400 niches for cremated ashes are included in Mountain Vista, and will cost $5,000 each.
“To expand the sales beyond the reach of the Cemetery Office, we plan on engaging professional sales agents — funeral homes — to help sell the mausoleum spaces,” said Putnam in a presentation to city council on Tuesday. “It will enhance our partnerships.”
He also says the new spaces will be cash-in-hand sales.
“We will not offer financing to customers. Payment will be required in-full at the time of purchase,” noted Putnam. “These prices that we are proposing are in effect until the end of December, 2030.”
Putnam has told city council steps are also being taken to keep the plots from becoming commodities.
“A customer can apply in writing to the Civic Operations Director to transfer their right of interment to those not within their immediate family,” noted Putnam in his presentation on Tuesday. “That intent [the application process] is to limit private sales with inflated pricing.”
The construction of the new mausoleum at Hillside began last year, and was initiated due to the other two mausoleums run by the city being at capacity.
