The new CEO of Tourism Kamloops has been unveiled.
Erik Fisher comes into the position after a number of years marketing the wine industry, including the Monte Creek Winery in Kamloops.
“I’ve lived here for nearly 10 years along with my spouse. Raised our children here. I think its fair to say that we understand and appreciate the culture,” said Fisher. “Having experiences outside of Kamloops has also opened my eyes up to the vast opportunities. I’m really excited about the position.”
He says he sees a lot of growth potential for tourism in Kamloops, noting a lot of travelers these days are concerned about costs.
“It is very approachable for lots of people, with free activities. There are, of course, pay to play options. From hiking to biking to fishing to Riverside Park, etcetera, there’s lots that families can do,” said Fisher.
Fisher says he feels Kamloops has a lot to offer, beyond the Tournament Capital branding.
“Kamloops has a much richer and more diverse arts and cultural scene than a lot people realize. I think supporting the great efforts that have already existed and building confidence in others that want to contribute as well will be vital,” said Fisher.
“Fisher is no stranger to the tourism landscape of Kamloops, having significantly contributed to the local industry and served on many boards, including the boards of the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) and Wine Growers British Columbia,” said Tourism Kamloops in a release announcing his new role as CEO. “His local connections and understanding of the area, combined with his broad perspective, unique experience, and industry knowledge are invaluable assets in steering Kamloops towards becoming a premier travel destination.”
Fisher takes over the role of Tourism Kamloops CEO following the departure earlier this year of Monica Dickinson to a new role in the private sector.
