With a heat wave on the way, the City of Kamloops will be opening its spray parks this weekend.
Councillor Stephen Karpuk says this Saturday’s opening comes a week earlier than expected.
“[Wednesday] night when I was walking through Riverside Park, I overheard a parent and some kids commenting that it was disappointing that park wasn’t open,” Karpuk said, on NL Newsday.
“I did reach out to [Civic Operations] Director [Jen] Fretz and got some feedback that they are moving to open the spray parks – barring any electrical or mechanical issues – on Saturday for this heat wave.”
The City has five spray parks that it manages – at Albert McGowan, McDonald, Riverside, and Westsyde Centennial parks, as well as the wading pool at Prince Charles Park
Friday morning, City staff confirmed that all of those water parks will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11.
“It’s a week earlier than anticipated but we’re grateful for that work on behalf of our staff,” Karpuk added.
“I think they were very much proactively looking at that weather going, ‘you know what, we can probably make this work’ and they were able to.”
Tell the kids! All City water parks will open for the season at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 11. This includes Riverside Park, Albert McGowan Park, Westsyde Centennial Park, McDonald Park, and Prince Charles Park wading pool. https://t.co/3RXDxQFFvp pic.twitter.com/Fbbxg42nbu
