Police in Merritt say two people were taken to hospital with “significant injuries” after a structure fire at a home on Houston Street.

Mounties say they were called to the 1900 block of Houston Street around 5 a.m. on Monday, May 20.

Merritt RCMP Staff Sgt. Josh Roda says police arrived to find firefighters already tending to the two people, who were stabilized and taken to hospital. He also says a suspect was arrested at the scene.

Roda says Lynn Johnny was charged with Arson Causing Bodily Harm and remains in custody. She is due back in court for a bail hearing this Friday, May 24.

Police are asking people who may have information about the fire to contact the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
