People in Kamloops and beyond looking for a resort get-away in the heart of nature now have a revived option.
The Lac Le Jeune Resort, shuttered around 5 years ago by the previous owner, is back up and running.
The resort, including 21 rooms in the main building, along with 6 cabins, has been taken over by former Tourism Kamloops CEO Monica Dickinson and her business partner, Vivek Sharma, under the Polaris Advisory brand.
Dickinson says their goal is to attract locals, as well as domestic and international travelers.
“The Kamloops area is known as sort of that stop over for travelers that are heading from Vancouver to the Rocky Mountains, or vice versa,” noted Dickinson. “We are starting to see a little bit of that activity. We’ve had our first couple of international guests from Germany, which, this sort of experience is right up their alley.”
Dickinson says they also hope to convince small-scale conventions or business gatherings give their Resort a shot.
“We are also looking to getting some business and meeting rooms up and running. We have a large banquet facility in the basement. We also have a small meeting space on the main floor that can hold about 15 to 20 people,” said Dickinson. “We’ve had some interest, obviously locally. That’s where local market comes into play. We’ve had some associations reach out. We actually just had first inquiry for a Christmas party this year.”
Run primarily as a summer destination under the old ownership, Dickinson says they intend to run the Lac Le Jeune Resort year round, noting opportunities at the resort for ice fishing and skating, as well as other winter recreation activities nearby.
“Obviously being neighbors with to the Overlander Ski Club and Stake Lake, our understanding there is up to 20,000 skier visits in the winter,” noted Dickinson. “There is an audience there that we’d love to tap into and become and extension of that experience as well.”
