Kamloops RCMP say a 40-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault following an incident on July 9 of last year.
In a statement Tuesday, they say Ryan Joseph Gallant has a court date on June 13 to answer to the charges.
Police say the charge dates back to an incident on a walking path between Strathcona Terrace and St. Paul Street West. They began investigating a report that a man approached a woman from behind and “grabbed her “in a sexual nature” before fleeing.
The incident led police to issue a public plea asking people who may have been in the area to come forward with any video or information that could help with the investigation.
“Since then, the investigation has continued to advance with the support of our General Investigations Support Team and Sex Crimes Unit, and led us to the next stage of the judicial process in which a suspect has been charged and will appear in court,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said, in a statement.
Police say they will not be releasing any more information as the matter is currently before the courts.
