The Kamloops Blazers have signed 2009-born defenseman Joaquin Geras to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
The Calgary native – who was drafted in the second round, 26th overall – is the second player from the 2024 WHL draft class to commit to the Blazers.
The six-foot-one left shot defenceman had six goals and 28 points in 27 games with the Edge School U15 Prep team. He also added two goals, three assists and five points in five playoff games.
“[He’s a] very smart, competitive defenseman,” Blazers’ Alberta scout Jason Pashelka said of Geras. “A leader on his team and plays both ends of the ice really high level.”
Geras’ signing comes days after 2024 first round pick Asher Gingras put pen to paper.
The pair are the first two 2009-born players to sign with the Blazers.
Geras was impressive at spring camp. North-South dman. Skates well. Good attitude. Good pick at 26 in the 2nd round. https://t.co/fZdwK6LJ2k
