Kamloops RCMP say a 33-year-old man is facing several charges after a large police presence on Clarke Street, near Royal Inland Hospital, yesterday morning, June 4.
Frontline officers and the Integrated Crisis Response Team – formerly Car 40 – were called to the 100-block of Clarke Street around 11 a.m. for a report of threats made by a man who was allegedly in possession of a weapon.
Police say the suspect “attempted to assault a police officer” before going back into his house.
“Concerned for the safety of the officers responding, potential bystanders, and the well-being of the suspect, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment requested and quickly received assistance from the BC RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team,” Kamloops RCMP Superintendent Jeff Pelley said, noting the officer was not injured.
“He eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.”
Police say Damon Wade Pierce is facing a number of charges, including assault of a police officer with a weapon, obstruction of a police officer, and failing to comply with a release order.
Pierce was remanded into custody, with a court appearance is scheduled for June 12.
