Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the Merritt area, with wind gusts of up 90 km/hr expected this afternoon, June 11.
The warning also includes the Merritt to Kamloops section of the Coquihalla and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna.
It says a Pacific frontal system is moving through Southern BC today bringing with it 70 km/hr winds of the southwest.
“The strong winds will subside this evening,” the warning said. “High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds.”
Drivers are being told to check Drive BC for the latest road conditions.
