Barriere RCMP are investigating the death of a 15-year-old who was killed when the ATV he was in overturned on Sunday evening.
Police say they arrived at the crash scene near the two-kilometre mark of the Darlington Creek Forest Service Road around 4:30 p.m. on June 9, where they found paramedics and by-standers providing medical attention.
Mounties say the victim was driving the ATV when he lost control, and died of his injuries. A passenger who was in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
“This tragic event has had a significant impact on all communities surrounding Barriere,” Barriere RCMP Cpl. Kyle Camalush said. “The Barriere RCMP wish to send our condolences to the families and friends of those involved during this difficult time.”
It is not clear what caused the crash, but RCMP say the initial evidence gathered at the scene suggests the teenager was not wearing a seat-belt.
Both the RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating.
