The road construction season in Kamloops is getting underway, with some of the outlying areas of the city getting their opportunity to be redone this year.
With the major work taking place on Lansdowne this year to replace a sewar main, as well the ongoing work on the Halston, Streets Manager Glen Farrow says it’s given them a chance to work other areas to try to lessen the impact on drivers.
“We’re doing a smaller section on Pacific Way, up into Kenna Cartwright. Between Hillside Drive and Canal. We’re also doing Phase 2 on Springhill Drive,” said Farrow.
Farrow notes that work on Springhill involves a water main replacement, as well as new sidewalks.
“That takes us from Sedona, where we ended off a couple of years ago, up to Monarch,” said Farrow. “Another one we’re actively working on is Clapperton, where there’s a much needed sidewalk connecting those neighborhoods.”
At the same time, Farrow says work is also underway on Westsyde Road, and says they will also be returning to finish up the work started this spring at the Pioneer Park parking lot and boat launch.
The City of Kamloops allocates $5 million dollars a year for street rehabilitation, with Farrow noting that budget isn’t being as strained this year thanks to fewer potholes from a relatively mild winter transition.
