A Kamloops City Councillor says the ongoing water main break in Calgary is a reminder of the importance of maintaining infrastructure.
Margot Middleton – who was in Calgary when the order to conserve water was made on June 5 – used the Lansdowne sewer main replacement project to say she’s grateful for the work being done by City staff and contractors.
“When you see what happened in Calgary, that can be any community,” Middleton said. “We take for granted our utilities and when you lose them, the impact is huge.”
“Being just a little detoured around a few areas, and maybe a few sort of traffic woes along the way is insignificant compared to to what happened in Calgary. Very thankful to all our crews.”
Middleton says she has heard the frustrations because of the work on Lansdowne Street but notes it would be much worse in the event of a catastrophic failure like in Calgary, where officials say it could take another two weeks for repairs to be completed.
There was a “significant” water break in Kamloops this morning, but not on City infrastructure, according to Kristen Rodrigue, the City’s Communications Manager.
“The city responded to a significant water break on a private water system within the government precinct area [on Columbia Street] and has isolated the break so repairs of the private infrastructure can be made,” Rodrigue told Radio NL.
