The Alzheimer Society’s now has thousands of dollars more to play with, thanks to a local effort on the water here in Kamloops.
“Originally planned, if we did $10,000 to $15,000 it would be fantastic. But we ended up surpassing that, almost doubling it. We ended up raising a total of $30,025.70,” said Frank Lucia, General Manager of Dominic’s Marine, one of the organizers of the Casting for a Cause event on June 15th.
Dominic’s, along with Cascades Casino, sponsored the event, which included a number of prizes for those involved.
Lucia says they were motivated by struggles within their own families.
“Started a number of years ago, we started noticing that my mom was becoming a little more forgetful. Sometimes you just chalk that up to, parents getting a little older. Things aren’t the same. But then we really start to notice as things progress, and the forgetfulness gets a little more prominent,” said Lucia.
Lucia says with the success of the first-ever Casting for a Cause fishing derby, they intend to do it again next year, but will up their goal to raise $50,000.
