The Dunn Creek Fire in the North Thompson, east of Little Fort, is now a Wildfire of Note.
The BC Wildfire Service has changed its classification as it continues to grow northward.
“We’ve got 25 fire fighters, as well as two structure protection crews on site. They’re being supported by heavy equipment. We do have helicopters that are available,” said Fire Information Officer Olive Norris-Leite with the BC Wildfire Service. “There are definitely sections of this wildfire that are unable to be actioned by heavy equipment. Therefore it is ground resources that are doing the heavy lifting.”
The Dunn Creek Fire is listed at around 23 square kilometers in size, and is now starting to track into Dunn Peak Park.
That park has large areas with no road access, as well considerable areas of undisturbed old-growth forest.
No structures in the area are being threatened by the northern flank of the fire.
Thompson-Nicola Regional District has four properties in the area under on evacuation order.
Thirty-two properties in the area are under alert.
