A new evacuation order has been issued due to the Chilcotin River slide.
“Evacuate immediately if you are in the following area: anywhere on the rivers or along the banks of the Chilcotin River from Hanceville to the Fraser River, and the Fraser River from the Chilcotin River to the Gang Ranch Rd Bridge,” said the BC government in a notification. “Flooding and debris flow in and around the Chilcotin and Fraser Rivers poses a threat to human life.”
“Evacuate immediately if you are in the evacuation area.”
The Thompson Nicola Regional District has put out its own warning.
“All TNRD private properties within 300 metres on either side of the Fraser River including the following addressed properties,” said the TNRD in a release.
Four properties are on alert.
The Lytton Ferry service has been cancelled as a result.
“Please be advised the Lytton Ferry will be closing down today after 1pm due to the Chilcotin Landslide and potential dangerous debris flow,” said Yellowhead Road and Bridge, which operates the Lytton Ferry. “The Lytton Ferry will have its last sailing at 1pm today and be closed until YRB can provide further updates.”
It comes as water has now started to flow through the slide area.
