A heads up if you’re planning on travelling through the Kicking Horse Canyon area of Rockies via the TransCanada.
RCMP have confirmed a serious, two vehicle accident has shut down Highway 1 at Emerald Lake Road, just south of Field.
This is the turnoff area into Field, which is home to the famed Burgess Shale formation, which is popular with tourists.
Mounties say “multiple people are being treated for serious injuries in the crash,” which took place around the noon-hour.
It’s unclear how many people were involved in the two vehicle crash, but an air ambulance out of Alberta was dispatched.
No traffic is getting through in either direction, with DriveBC saying its next update won’t be until 9 p.m. Pacific time.
