A positive sign for the wildfire situation in the North Thompson.
The BC Wildfire Service has taken the Dunn Creek fire down as a Wildfire of Note.
The fire, east of Little Fort, is still listed as “out of control,” but has not seen its size grow in the past number of days.
“We’ve definitely seen more seasonable temperatures for August kind of encroaching on us here, and the few days ahead,” noted Taylor Wallace, Fire Information Officer with the BC Wildfire Service. “We are seeing moderate to high fire danger rating right now.”
However, Wallace says recent rains in the North Thompson have helped keep the fire in-check.
“Crews have made pretty good progress on that fire over the last while, aided by some cooler — not super-cool — but cooler conditions. They’ve been making some great work and there hasn’t been a ton of growth lately,” said Wallace.

Crews are trying to keep the fire from entering the Dunn Peak protected area, as it has very little road access, as well as a wide swath of old growth forest.
“We are seeing most of the activity for where our crews and helicopters are working on the northeastern flank of the fire. That’s been kind of their main focus,” said Wallace.
Previous evacuation orders and alerts for the Dunn Creek fire have now been taken down.
The Dunn Creek fire is listed at just under 23 square kilometers in size.
