The newly opened Kamloops Bike Ranch Pump Track is off to a rough start.
The new facility for cyclists and scooters opened just over a month ago at the top of Juniper but apparently some users and abiding by the rules.
The issue came up at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, with councilor Mike O’Reilly raising some concerns over it’s use.
“The new pump track is being used fairly widely, unfortunately there are a lot of people using electric bikes, electric scooters and electric dirt bikes,” noted O’Reilly during his Councilor’s Report.
“This is causing significant damage to the track that just opened. It was built to the standards and extra money was spent to be an international facility. Come up, bring your kids, bring your family but it’s not for anything with a form of motor be it combustion or electric,” continued O’Reilly.
The veteran Councilor also implored others to keep a close eye out when in the area.
“If you do see people (mis-using) the track just called CSO Officers. We are trying to track this people around. Frankly it could just be just people that aren’t uninformed and we want to let them know.”
The project, which cost just over $1 million, officially opened July 4th.
