On the heels of warnings being issued by the Kamloops Performance Cycling Centre about young people riding their electric or gas-powered bikes in erratic ways on their Pump Track, as well as in the area around it, reports indicate a serious crash involving one of them has taken place.
Social media reports suggest a pickup truck and an electric motor scooter collided on Qu’appelle Boulevard at around 7:30pm on Thursday.
No word yet from the RCMP on the circumstances, or whether any serious injuries were involved.
Pictures from the scene show yellow traffic cones around the crash site, indicating Traffic Reconstruction teams from the RCMP are involved.
Juniper neighborhood residents have been expressing concerns about the electric and gas-powered bikes being ridden on public roads in the area.
This follows public concerns being raised at Kamloops city council, as well as with the KPCC, that the young people riding the same powered bikes are causing damage to the newly-built Pump Track in Juniper.
“It’s happening everywhere. Barnhartvale on the playgrounds, soccer fields. It’s bad in Pineview, also Kenna Cartwright. It’s becoming a trend,” KPCC President Cheryl Beattie told Radio NL earlier this week, saying that she hopes it “doesn’t take a major incident to draw more awareness to the situation.”
Radio NL will be reaching out to authorities for more information on the crash.
