It seems the community in Ashcroft is embracing its new rebrand.

The Village is now dubbing itself “Heart of the True Desert,” dumping its old motto “Wellness Awaits You.”

Mayor Barbara Roden says their announcement of the rebrand, put out on the Village’s Facebook page, has received overwhelmingly positive responses.

“People on Facebook feel free to give you their true opinion. I was looking at the different comments that were coming in. I did not see one negative comment. Every single comment I saw — it must be a record for Facebook — every single one was positive, was enthusiastic,” she said.

Roden says they did hire a consultant to get some feedback from the community before making the change.

“The two things that kept rising to the surface about what do you think of when you think of Ashcroft? What makes it special to you? One was the heart of the people, the compassion, the friendliness, the welcoming nature of the people of Ashcroft. The other one was the fact that we are Canada’s only true desert,” said Roden.

The new motto is now on the Village’s website, and will be on its officials signage, as well as letterhead.
