It’s Pride week in Kamloops, and just like in years past, there will be a myriad of events held through the week.
Kamloops Pride President Alyssa Christianson says the main event will be the parade which is set to go on Sunday, Aug. 25, starting at 11 a.m.
“I am excited for the parade, it will be on Victoria Street same as last year between 2nd and 5th avenues,” Christianson said, noting this year’s parade is set to be the biggest and best one yet.
“We have increased our staging area to accommodate floats than ever before. I think it will be a really big event, and you can line up anywhere along Victoria Street to see it.”
The parade will get underway on the corner of 2nd Ave and Seymour Street before turning onto Victoria Street where it will make its way east. There will be road closures in effect as staging begins at 9 a.m. on St. Paul Street and Battle Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue.
People in the community who want to march in the parade are asked to meet the Kamloops Pride group on 2nd Ave and St. Paul Street before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Following the parade, the annual Pride Festival will over the area near the Riverside Park bandshell between 12 noon and 4 p.m.
“It’s a bit hard to get the parade to loop around and snake all the way to the park, but that’s alright. We’ll disembark and then we usually have a huge crowd of people walk over to riverside park right after,” Christianson said.
