People in Blind Bay in the Shuswap have their water services back via the Cedar Heights Water System.
It comes after overnight repairs to a failed pump were successful.
“We were able to source a pump to repair the broken one. Get that in as quickly as possible, and then our dive crews and contractors worked late into last night to complete those repairs,” said Tracy Hughes with the Columbia Shuswap Regional District.
She notes this fix did take on an extra challenge, noting dive crews had to be contracted to make the repairs.
“The problem was with the deep water lake intake, and pumping that water up into the system, filling up those reservoirs and then getting it pumped through to the system. It did require some underwater work,” said Hughes.
The Regional District says a Boil Water Notice remains in place until testing confirms the water is safe to consume, with Hughes noting that is likely to last for several more days.
The CSRD says it will advise residents when the Boil Water Notice is removed.
A failure of the pump in the Water System on Monday evening prompted the Regional District to ask for “extreme” water conservation restrictions, with many of the 450 affected households losing their potable water service through Tuesday.
Those “extreme” measures meant no showering, washing or lawn watering.
“We understand what an inconvenience that they were put through, and we’re very pleased that this was not an extended outage,” noted Hughes. “This wasn’t a City of Calgary situation where people had to go for weeks and weeks with water conservation measures.”
