RCMP say a large police presence on 13th Street in north Kamloops over the weekend was connected to a serious assault investigation, where one person suffered non-life threatening injuries.
In an update Monday, RCMP says members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-BC (CFSEU) Uniform Gang Enforcement Team were in Kamloops on Friday night “assisting with increased crime suppression and presence efforts.”
Police say those officers came across a victim with “obvious injuries” outside of a house on the 1100-block of 13th Street that is known to them.
Kamloops RCMP Superintendent Jeff Pelley says the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was also called in to clear out the house. He says “several people” were arrested and later released, and that two of them had conditions and a court date.
“Targeting those who are known to be part of the Kamloops drug trafficking scene continues to be a focus for the Kamloops RCMP Detachment, as we work to suppress and reduce the violence and crime we know is associated to it,” Pelley said, in a statement.
“With the support of our partners including the CFSEU-BC UGET, our presence and enforcement efforts remain steadfast, from the frontline onward, to hold offenders accountable and make our community safer still.”
The details surrounding the police operation are not known at this time, with police also saying they expect that charges will be laid by the BC Prosecution Service once their investigation wraps up.
People with information or video that may be related to the incident are being told to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.
