Burned out area of the Venables Valley due to the Shetland Creek wildfire/via Tricia Thorpe
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has downgraded the final evacuation order connected to the Shetland Creek wildfire.
This order covered 12 properties in the Venables Valley area, which have all been given the all-clear.
Residents in Venables Valley have launched a new website to help coordinate donations as they launch an advocacy campaign as they focus on recovery and rebuilding.
Evacuation orders are still in place for an unknown number of properties on the Cook’s Ferry Indian band in the area.
The lightning caused Shetland Creek wildfire near Spences Bridge is no longer considered to be a wildfire of note.
It is still listed as being held at about 280 square kilometres in size, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
“Smoke from unburned pockets of fuel within the perimeter of the Shetland Creek fire may at times be visible from Highway 1 and nearby communities,” the BC Wildfire Service said. “This fire will continue to be monitored and hot spots identified from aerial scans will be actioned where accessible.”
“Rehabilitation work is ongoing [and] fire growth and activity are stable on this incident.”
