Kamloops RCMP are investigating a case of “dark and disturbing” vandalism at a park in Westsyde.
Police say they were called to Rainbow Park on McCurrach Place Wednesday to investigate a report of racist graffiti.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says investigators believe the park was hit sometime overnight, after 9 p.m. Tuesday.
“The fact that someone would intentionally damage a children’s park in and of itself is appalling, but that they would further subject the community to such hateful and racist words is absolutely disgusting,” Evelyn said.
“The local residents who were present while the responding police officer investigated all expressed their disdain and disapproval of the language used and the crime committed.”
Evelyn says “numerous items” at the park and the play structure were tagged with spray paint. She says some paint cans were also seized as part of the investigation.
Mounties are asking people who witnessed the incident or those with video of it to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-28418.
They’re also asking people to come forward if the know someone who came home on Tuesday night with spray paint on their hands.
