Police in B.C. say a man who was found dead by the side of the Coquihalla Highway near Merritt last month could have been hit by a vehicle as many as five days before he was discovered.
The BC Highway Patrol says their investigation has concluded that the unidentified man – who was found near Exit 286 on Friday evening, Aug. 30 – may have been hit by a southbound vehicle as early as Sunday, Aug. 25.
“August 25 to 30 is a five-day window. There were a lot of vehicles coming through the area with dashcam,” BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Cpl. Melissa Jongema said.
“It is extremely important that even if your dashcam seems to be irrelevant that you contact BC Highway Patrol because any and all information can help narrow down the timeline of when this incident occurred.”
Police had previously said the believed the man may have been hit by a vehicle between sunset on Aug. 27 and the report to police on Aug. 30.
Mounties are still asking people who witnessed a man wearing a grey hoody and black track pants in the area, or those with dash camera footage of the crash to contact BCHP in Merritt at 250-378-4262 and reference file 2024-3322.
