The Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the Build Kamloops initiative, calling it “a visionary plan that addresses the pressing needs of our growing community.”
In a statement, Chamber Executive Director Acacia Pangilinan says the plan aligns with the Chamber’s vision of building, support, and advocating for a vibrant business community.
“As Kamloops continues to expand, so too must our facilities, infrastructure, and public spaces to ensure that our city remains vibrant, livable, and a place where businesses and residents can thrive,” Pangilinan said.
“Our Chamber has actively participated in the Build Kamloops working groups, ensuring that the voices of our members were heard during the planning and deliberations. The result is a forward-thinking initiative that aligns with our vision for a prosperous Kamloops.”
Pangilinan previously told Radio NL that Kamloops Chamber members were – for the most part – supportive of the ongoing Alternative Approval Process that is being used to approve borrowing up to $275 million to fund phase of the project which includes a performing arts centre downtown and a four-sheet arena multiplex in Dufferin.
Build Kamloops also includes a new leisure pool on the North Shore, a large curling club facility to accommodate consolidation of the two curling clubs, new indoor field space, and a new all-ages community centre.
It may also include housing in some of those facilities, if it is found to be feasible.
Pangilinan is asking chamber members to support the initiative to help “build a brighter future for Kamloops.”
“The Build Kamloops initiative is more than just a series of projects; it is a commitment to the future of Kamloops,” Pangilinan said. “By investing in new recreational facilities, cultural spaces, and community amenities, we are laying the foundation for a vibrant, inclusive, and prosperous city.”
“The Chamber believes this initiative will enhance the quality of life for our residents and strengthen our local economy by empowering our local arts and sports organizations, supporting new and existing businesses and help in attracting workforce talent to the area.”
