It turns out BC United is going to be on the ballot in the Oct. 19 election in British Columbia after all.
In a letter to party members, BC United now says it will run a “select” number of candidates to ensure that it remains a registered political party with Elections BC.
Communications Director, Adam Wilson, says in a statement that running some candidates ensures the BC United party name is available in future elections.
BC United does not say in which ridings it will run those candidates or how many candidates will seek election.
Several of its candidates – including Peter Milobar in Kamloops – have announced their intention to run for the BC Conservatives, while others like Dan Davies in Peace River North, Mike Bernier in Peace River South, and Tom Shypitka in Kootenay Rockies all announced plans to run as independents.
Others like Jackie Tegart and Todd Stone have announced plans to not seek re-election this fall after leader Kevin Falcon suspended BC United’s election campaign and encouraged supporters to back the BC Conservative Party.
Asked if she will run for BC United following this revelation, Tegart told Radio NL “no.”
Former BC United candidate-turned-independent, Kevin Acton in Vernon-Lumby, has also confirmed that he is not among the candidates who will run under the BC United flag.
