Kamloops RCMP say they’re working with the BC Coroners Service, after the discovery of a dead man in the Thompson River Wednesday evening.
“On Sept. 11, 2024, around 5:45 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended an area near McArthur Island Park in response to the report, and were able to retrieve the body near the shoreline,” said Kamloops RCMP in a release. “The BC Coroners Service attended and is investigating concurrently.”
“At this time, we’re still working to confirm the identity of the deceased person,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.
While the RCMP are working to identify the victim, indications are it could be the man who was lost in the river after a capsizing off the Lorne Street boat launch early last week.
RCMP say they were called out at 7:15 in the morning on September 3rd to help Kamloops Fire Rescue with a water rescue after two men were heard yelling for help near the Overlanders Bridge.
One of the men involved – who was wearing a life jacket – was rescued.
The other man, said to be in his 40’s, disappeared, and was the subject of a large-scale search involving boats, ground crews and the RCMP helicopter.
