The City of Kamloops has issued a formal apology, after someone through council’s zoom feed, was able to project a pornographic image through it during Tuesday’s open council session.
“The City of Kamloops and Kamloops City Council would like to apologize for the disruption caused during our recent Council meeting due to a Zoom-bombing incident,” stated the City in a release. “We deeply regret the inappropriate behaviour that occurred and any distress it may have caused to our in-person or virtual attendees, including residents, media, staff, and Council members.”
The meeting itself was adjourned following the incident, with staff said to be shaken by the disruption, which caused an audible outburst from those in the public gallery.
“Our intention is always to create an open and safe space for discussion, and we are disappointed that this incident overshadowed that goal,” the City went on to say. “We take this matter seriously and are actively reviewing our procedures and security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future and will take steps to prevent this from reoccurring ever again.”
The City says it thanks Kamloops City Hall observers for their understanding and support, saying the City will “work to ensure that our meetings remain welcoming and constructive for everyone.”
