The Valleyview boat launch is being reopened to allow residents to remove their boats from the river.
The boat launch was closed following the fire and collapse of the Red Bridge last Thursday. The City made this decision recognizing that as water levels drop at the end of the season, people will need to get their boats out of the river.
The city stresses that this is not an invitation to head out onto the river for recreational purposes and people are asked to stay away from the Red Bridge site.
Transport Canada and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure have ordered the portion of the South Thompson River between Pioneer Park and Riverside Park to remain closed to all boating and remind boaters to be cautious of debris downstream (west) of the confluence. Residents are asked to abide by all posted signage.
All other closures remain in effect until further notice, and residents are reminded to stay out of the South Thompson and Thompson Rivers at or west of the Red Bridge site and to stay back from the rivers edge. Closures include:
- Pioneer Park
- Pioneer Park boat launch
- McArthur Island boat launch
- Waterfront Park
- The Rivers Trail between Pioneer Park and Riverside Park
- Riverside Park beach
- Riverside Park pier
