The Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the local BIA’s and media partners including Radio NL, is set to host the Provincial Election Forums, which will be live-streamed for your convenience.
Chamber officials say it has designed the forums to be taken in from the comfort of your home. You can tune in to hear directly from candidates and have the chance to submit questions live via Slido, an easy-to-use audience engagement platform.
Executive Director Acacia Pangilinan says accessibility was a big factor. “We wanted to make sure that we could reach as many people as possible. And, you know, having the ability to do it from the comfort of your own home was really an attractive opportunity for us.”
“Residents from both Kamloops North riding and the Kamloops Centre riding will be able to access the stream at no cost, available on all of the partners platform.”
What are some of the major issues that are likely to be brought forward? “From a chamber perspective, you know, we’re really focused in on the cost of doing business. We’re hearing a lot about how challenging it is for our business community here in Kamloops, but also across the province. So that’ll be a focus for us.
“I think from, the business improvement associations, we’ll be hearing a lot about safety and the challenges with with criminality, but then we’re also probably going to hear a lot about health care. You know, we hear a lot about that in our own community, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a priority going into the forum I did want to mention too.”
“So we are using an online platform for residents to put forward their questions. So although they won’t be in the room, they will still have the ability to put forward questions that are important to them. And so we’re using a platform called Slido. It’s really user friendly. You can access it from a browser, and you can put forward your questions, and then others who are watching have the ability to upvote questions that are also important. So even though it’ll be a virtual format, there’s still an opportunity to put forward questions that are important.”
