A busy 24 hours in Kamloops this week for the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team out of the Okanagan.
Mounties have confirmed the subject of a massive manhunt north of Rayleigh on Monday is now in custody, after being discovered by RCMP teams late Tuesday afternoon.
“The most recent of the arrests – all unrelated – occurred Tuesday Oct. 1, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., at a camp on Jamieson Creek Forest Service Road,” said the RCMP in a release. “The Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment had been called to the area the night before, Sept. 30, 2024, for a report which involved a man who had allegedly pointed a firearm at a person. Frontline officers conducted extensive patrols of the area, but did not locate the suspect.”
That search on Monday, as well as Tuesday’s subsequent arrest of the suspect, did involve the Emergency Response Team being brought in on both occasions, as the suspect could still have been armed.
As Monday’s search was taking place, the Emergency Response Team was simultaneously dealing with a separate incident involving a distraught man with a weapon.
“This was the third time the SED ERT responded to Kamloops in a 24-hour period, with two of the occurrences overlapping at the same time,” noted Superintendent Jeff Pelley of the Kamloops and Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP detachments, referring to the Rose Hill assault in progress report which ended with a man being safely arrested on Tuesday at around 2 p.m.
Both suspects are being held in custody, with the individual involved in the Rose Hill incident awaiting a bail hearing.
“The resolve and professionalism of our frontline officers, SED ERT, and support units provided an exceptional response that allowed for comprehensive investigations and swift action, with the interest of public safety remaining at the forefront,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley. “The tireless efforts of those who attended these high-risk and stressful situations are greatly appreciated in their attempts to help safeguard our communities.”
