Airbnb has released its 2024 Winter Travel Report and it shows Kamloops as one of the top trending destinations for Canadians this winter.
Kamloops comes in at number three on the list. The company states that it is making its mark as a winter destination, thanks to its stunning landscapes and reputation for outdoor adventure.
The area’s mild winters and access to incredible skiing and snowshoeing make it a draw for nature lovers. Visitors can also enjoy Kamloops’ welcoming downtown with its local shops, eateries, and a laid-back atmosphere that complements the winter experience.
Airbnb Spokesperson Matt McNama says Kamloops is one of four ski destinations on the list, as Canadians embrace winter and the great outdoors to its fullest potential. “Canada is very fortunate. We have four distinct seasons, and we get to explore the country in those four seasons. I mean, you get to be magical out of it as a result. One of the beauties of Canada is, is that we do get to embrace the winter a bit more and go skiing in those destinations, and go cross country skiing or hiking. Canadians aren’t afraid to explore the great outdoors when it’s cold outside. And I think we’re seeing that reflected on that list.”
“A lot of the cities that we’re seeing that are on the list are a bit smaller than the big metropolises, for example, like Vancouver or Toronto, which are further down on the list. And it tells me that I think Canadians are searching for more off the beaten path destinations, or, for example, they want somewhere they’ve never been before, and maybe Canadians haven’t been to Kamloops. And so that might be driving that search.”
“One thing we found when we did an analysis of where Canadians are traveling to and there was 8 million check ins by Canadians last year domestically on the platform, and that’s a record. That’s a 30% growth from 2019 so that tells me that Canadians are exploring their own backyard more and more on Airbnb. And clearly, Kamloops is going to be one of those destinations for the winter.”
