The holiday season is approaching and the Salvation Army in Kamloops has kicked off its annual Kettle campaign with a goal of raising $240,000.
Sarah’s independent grocers was the site of the 2024 campaigns’ inaugural donation. “We had the first donation put into kettle by Sarah,” said Major Orest Goyak. “She kicked it off for us. So we’re well on our way to to our 2024, Christmas kettle campaign.”
Goyak says the money given to the kettles is used for Salvation Army programs, including the emergency food bank, the seniors breakfast program and after school programs for children and youth.
“We start with about eight kettles. Closer to Christmas, we’re at about 12 different locations give or take. We do have the tip taps available in some locations. The countertops and that sort of thing. So we’re encouraging folks to not only give with cash, but give with their credit card or debit card, just tapping the tip tap, which is 100% funds come right to us here in Kamloops.”
Goyak says the $240,000 goal is the same as last year when they came up just a bit shy. “We have the same goal of 240 we just missed it by a few thousand dollars, but I’m pretty confident this year that we can make our goal. The folks in Kamloops here can help us out to get to that goal would be we’d be very grateful.”
“This is our major fundraiser for the year. We have few other fundraisers, but this is the major one that keeps us the lights on and helps us to support the families that are in need in the community. So we are very appreciative at this time of the year. Every every dollar that comes into the cattle we put the good use.”
Goyak says all donations, no matter the size, help. “Please give what you can financially, but also what you can with time. If you can spare an hour or two hours of your time, it would be much appreciated.”
