Former Kamloops Blazers captain Fraser Minten notched his first National Hockey League goal on Wednesday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs rookie scored on a feed from William Nylander to put the Leafs up 1-0 over the Vegas Golden Knights at 08:53 of the 1st period. “Got a line change there, and sometimes when you’re coming off the bench on the rush, they don’t really pick you up,” said Minten after the game. “So just tried to stay, stay kind of in the quiet ice there. And I know Willie sees everything. So this was was waiting for something, and he made a great pass.”
The Leafs went on to win the game 3-0, meaning Minten’s goal stood up as the game winner.
Minten said he felt a little different coming into this game compared to what he experienced in the four games he played with the big club in 2023. “I think, like, more assertive. Felt more more confident, for sure. You just kind of go out there, and it’s a little less like, awe. It’s more like, you can. You can fit in and be effective, and that was my goal. And just try to do that.”

The 20 year old from Vancouver was a member of the Blazers for parts of four seasons. As a Blazer, Minten put up 150 points (58 goals and 92 assists) in 151 regular season games. He also added 20 points (eight goals and 12 assists) in 27 playoff games.
Shortly after being named the 37th captain in Blazers history, he was traded to the Saskatoon Blades for a package that included forward Aaron Keller and multiple draft picks. Minten helped Saskatoon reach the WHL’s eastern conference final where they lost to the eventual league champion Moose Jaw Warriors in seven games. He had a total of 52 points in 56 games with the Blades. He finished his WHL career with 222 points in 230 games between both the regular season and playoffs.
Minten went on to Captain team Canada at the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championships. He scored one goal and added two assists in five games. Canada failed to medal in tournament’s 48th installation, falling to team Czechia 3-2 in the quarter finals.
