Residents and visitors to the Kamloops area now have access to an online map that shows all of the movies and TV shows that have been filmed across the region.
Thompson Nicola Film Commissioner Terri Hadwin says the interactive map that will highlight locations where things were filmed is being brought back following a number of requests for it.
“It was something that we had offered years in the past, and what had happened was we were we found that we were paying a little bit too much to host it on the website that we were hosting it on. And recently, the GIS team at the TNRD doing all the magical things that they do with the various maps that they get to work with, they were able to put this together for us for minimal cost to keep it operating. So we’re really excited to be able to bring this service back.”
Hadwin says there are likely some things that they missed on the map and would welcome any feedback to make it as accurate as possible. “If the public wanted to log in and and find some of their favorite films or television series productions, commercials. Anything that they have worked on or know happened on their property? They wanted to get in touch with us and let us know, hey, you missed this spot. We would absolutely love that feedback so that we can update it.
The hope is it will be a beneficial tourism tool. “Sometimes we have film enthusiasts, especially for specific projects. I’ll take, for example, we’ve been approached by people that are avid lovers of the Jurassic World, Jurassic series, and so they were wondering, you know, what various locations they could potentially go and visit that had been filmed in our area. And what’s nice about our movie map is that it does showcase various locations of what was used in the production and whether you can go and visit or not.”
“For example, Jurassic World. No, you wouldn’t be able to go and visit the ranch where some of the filming had taken place, because it’s a private ranch, and they’re doing ranching stuff. But yes, you absolutely could walk around the downtown Merritt neighborhood where some of the other shots were taken. ”
