We’re now getting more details as to why there was such a large police presence in north Kamloops on Friday morning, which shut down Tranquille Road for a time.
At 10am on the Friday, the Mounties shut down Tranquille at Holt for well-over an hour while they executed a search warrant “as part of a file.”
While the original release by the RCMP did not specify which “file” the search warrant is connected to, an update from the Mounties issued on Monday would suggest its part of the ongoing crackdown on the gangs operating drug rings out of the city.
“On Friday February 7, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., multiple units from the Kamloops RCMP attended the 1700 block of Brunner Avenue as part of an ongoing investigation into an arson,” said the RCMP. “At the location, officers located and seized varying quantities of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.”
A number of weapons — including a handgun and three rifles — were also seized.
“Last week’s successful search warrant execution was part of the continuous work that our Crime Reduction Unit and General Investigation Team continue to pursue as part of their investigations as we continue to target those involved in drug trafficking and violent crime in our community,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP Detachment Commander.
A heavily armed unit out of the Okanagan was brought up to assist with the raid on Friday, suggesting Kamloops RCMP were aware of the potential for weapons being involved.
“[The] Kamloops Crime Reduction Unit and General Investigation Team were supported by the Southeast District Emergency Response Team,” noted the Mounties.
They say that one person was arrested and then released “as part of the ongoing investigation.”
“[The] CRU’s dedication to targeting those involved in the drug trade continues take dangerous guns and drugs off our streets,” said Sergeant Jason Pole of the CRU.
