A Coroners Service investigation is being launched to determine if there were mitigating factors behind why a driver crossed over the line on the TransCanada west of Kamloops on Friday, leading to his death.
RCMP have confirmed that the driver of a vehicle — identified as a man in his 50’s from 100 Mile House — was killed in the head-on crash around 9pm on Thursday evening just outside the Skeetchestn Big Sky Canco.
The Mounties say the driver crossed over the center line and plowed head-on into an oncoming SUV.
RCMP say the 50 year old was the only one in the car.
“[The driver was] found trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said the RCMP.
The two others in the SUV coming the other way toward Kamloops when the crash took place were transported to Royal Inland Hospital with undetermined, but non-life-threatening injuries.
“A collision analyst attended the scene to assist in determining the cause of the crash,” said the RCMP. “Preliminary evidence suggests the car veered into oncoming traffic.”
RCMP are looking for any help in determining what may have led up to the crash.
“Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident is asked to contact Kamloops Rural RCMP,” said the Mounties in a release.
