The host of the television show Daily Planet is set to pay a visit to Kamloops this week as part of TRUSU’s Common Voices Lecture series.
Every year, the Thompson Rivers University Student Union hosts the Common Voices Lecture Series to bring the community together for an engaging learning experience beyond the classroom. IT brings in world-renowned speakers, free of charge for the Kamloops community to address some of the most important and thought-provoking topics of our time.
This year’s guest is Jay Ingram, Canadian author and broadcaster best known as host of the television show Daily Planet.
The 2025 lecture, has the theme of Theatre of the Mind: How Science Shapes Our Understanding of Consciousness. Ingram will explore how science is reshaping our understanding of consciousness through live demonstrations, AI-generated visuals, and thought-provoking insights.
Simran Saigal is the Student Union’s Entertainment Representative and hopes that people will be inspired by Ingram’s achievements. “He will be exploring how science is changing our understanding of consciousness, and we hope that his insights will kind of inspire students and people like myself to explore science and learn from someone who has spent his entire career, making it accessible to everyone.”
“It’s rare to have access to somebody who has made science so engaging and accessible. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of consciousness with fresh perspectives that will challenge their thinking and inspire curiosity about the brain and science.”
“What’s going to be really interesting in the event is that he is going to use live demos and AI generated images and fascinating facts to reveal surprising truths about consciousness and how it shapes the perception of reality. So, it’s also like the people who are not very familiar with science as a subject will also be able to understand it because he’s going to explain it in a way that’s understood by the layman.”
