Matt Dunstone and his Manitoba team are off to the playoffs at the Montana’s Brier in Kelowna.
His teams final game of the round robin came against four time defending champions and undefeated Brad Gushue rink out of N.L. Dunstone needed the win to secure a spot in the playoffs and he did not disappoint.
Among the highlights of the match was a steal in the 8th end. It was the first time all week where Gushue gave up a steal. That gave Dunstone a lead into the 9th. Gushue was able to score one to tie it heading into the 10th and final end. That’s where Dunstone was able to do just enough. He did not need to throw his final stone as he had shot rock after Gushue’s final attempt.
The win meant both Gushue and Dunstone finished round robin play with 7-1 records. Dunstone claims top spot in Pool A thanks to owning the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Dunstone curled 91% in the victory.
