The Kamloops Vintage Car Club is set to host its annual Easter vintage car parade this Sunday, April 20 and organizers are expecting over 100 vehicles to be taking part.
Club President Ken Hoshowski says cars that are least 25 years old and in stock condition will be on display at Riverside Park following a drive through the city. “We like to keep our cars in reasonably stock condition. And the club itself have, we have four vintage vehicles that we have restored, and they’ll be on display as well. All four of them were used in the Kamloops area, so it’s sort of a historical situation for us. And they’re beautiful. Come down and have a look at them.”
Ahead of the Riverside Park display, there will be a parade of sorts heading around parts of Kamloops. At about 11:45, cars will leave the park and head up 12th Street to Westsyde. At Kyle Drive, cars will proceed on Bank Road to Harrington Street and then return on Westsyde Road to join 8th Street and Tranquille Road over the Overlander’s bridge ending up at Riverside Park at about 1:00.
Hoshowski says the display is free. “There’s no charge to attend. We will have cookies and coffee by donation, and the any funds that are raised to go towards the restoration and keeping the cars in running condition perfect.”
He does note that there is a slight change in the location due to construction activity. “Because of the work being done for the outdoor ice rink at the park, the our our venue is moved slightly to the east, so we’ll be under the trees just closer to Third Ave.”
The four care that the Kamloops Club has restored are:
1952 Austin-Shearline Ambulance
“It was the first dedicated ambulance in Kamloops. It was bought new by the city and it was operated here till the mid 60s. And our chapter has spent nine years restoring this vehicle with 1000s of hours and we’re very very proud of that particular vehicle.”
1945 Ford tow truck
“That was restored by the club that was originally operated by the by the Navy depot, and it was sold to the village of North Kamloops as an ambulance and later converted to a tow truck.”
1937 Ford firetruck
“This was bought new by the city of Kamloops was later converted to a ladder truck from a ladder truck to a tanker and was restored by the club as well.”
1928 Dodge sedan
“Originally owned by the Fiocco family who use it as a delivery van to deliver bakery goods from their from their store. So all these vehicles have historical significance because they were all using the Kamloops area.”
